The course will begin with a general overview of what makes up our abdominal muscular core and will continue with 3 other workshops that will focus on specific regions and components of the core. After four weeks of a dynamic asana practice not only will you will have a deep understanding of your physical core but you will feel stronger.
Throughout the 4 sessions we will explore what lies at the core of the Yoga practice. Breath work and focused detailed awareness of our body will be used to help you access your own mental and emotional core. It’s not just about being strong and looking good in the outside but its bringing that stability to the core of our being.
This session will provide a general overview of what the core is:
What are the key muscular components that make up the core
How do these muscles work together and integrate to create core stability
What lies at the core of our yoga practice; how does breath and focus connect you to your core
A well rounded vinyasa practice to understand where the different core muscles are and how we can access them.
SESSION 2: Saturday, 19 October

Core stability is a basic component for movement. From stability we move and expand. Stabilizing the “core”- the centre of the body will help us move smoothly and with ease during our asana practice.
How do we engage the core for good movement?
Anterior Core- the crunching abs. Let’s crunch!
This vinyasa based practice will focus on core engagement through movement. We will use stabilizing strength to create more strength. Yes, you will work that six pack!
SESSION 3: SATURDAY, 26 OCTOBER
TWIST THOSE LOVE HANDLES AWAY! ALL ABOUT ROTATIONAL CORE
This class will focus on:
What is the “rotational core”?
How and what muscles are used to twist and side bend?
This vinyasa base practice will focus on twisting asanas. Twists are not just a great way to strengthen the side body but an easy way to work with spinal mobility. With this strength you will also find a more mobile spine that will allow for better posture and alleviate back pain.
SESSION 4: SATURDAY, 2 NOVEMBER
WHAT BACK PAIN?! A STRONG LOWER BACK MEANS A PAIN FREE BACK

What does it mean to have a strong or weak back?
How does the strength or weakness of the lower back relate to back pain?
Explore easy and simple solutions to strengthen the back and alleviate pain.
Through a vinyasa based practice this class will focus on asanas that will allow you to identify and engage the key muscles that make up the back of your core. We will explore different backbends that promote strengthen and flexibility of the back.
