Yoga, Life & Your Nervous System with Rinat Perlman

Over the last couple of years, Rinat has been incorporating counselling and therapy work on top of teaching yoga. Through this work, she has been gaining new knowledge as experience which are influencing both her yoga and yoga teaching and life overall. One of the main subjects she has been exploring is our nervous system. Join Rinat on a learning day about our nervous system and it’s application in yoga and in life.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Our daily life is often full of stressful situations - work, kids, partners, family, friends, money, schedule, and so on.

The combination of our reactions to stress is known as the "fight-or-flight" response and is the job of the sympathetic nervous system.

This is why we must have ways to help regulate this system through activation of our parasympathetic nervous system which calms the body and conserves energy, sometimes called the rest and digest response.

The practice of Yoga helps regulate the nervous system.

In Yoga, we train our mind and body to find a healthy balance within our nervous system, or in other words to help our bodies find homeostasis.

Homeostasis is the ability to maintain a relatively stable internal state that persists despite changes in the world outside.

“We all come from dysfunctional families. The issue is not whether our family was dysfunctional but whether we can put meaning to the experience of our lives.”
Stephen Porges, The Polyvagal Theory

The vagus nerve
represents a main component of the parasympathetic nervous system, which oversees a vast array of crucial bodily functions, including control of mood, immune response, digestion, and heart rate.

Polyvagal Theory offers an understanding of how the vagus nerve, one part of the Parasympathetic nervous system, connects the brain, to the heart, to the organs of the belly, relates to our human abilit to connect and communicate with each other.

Yoga, Life & Your Nervous System is a single-day learning that will provide participants witha foundational understanding of how our nervous system has a major part in the way we operate in our relationships with ourselves and others - at home, at work, and in society.
